The Italian School in DC

These courses are intended ONLY for children and teenagers who have a good vocabulary and already understand the Italian language well enough to follow the lessons which are  exclusively in Italian. The level of spoken language is less important, and it will be the task of our excellent teachers to bring them to an adequate level of verbal communication by the end of the school year.

Our teachers are trained to awaken interest in our language in children who have at least one Italian parent, or who have spent summers in Italy, but who still struggle to speak correctly, or who prefer to respond in English

At the end of the year, also thanks to the "class group" effect, the children feel safe and are no longer afraid to express themselves in Italian, although they may still make mistakes.

Our Italian language and culture courses are based on the Italian school's curriculum and are structured according to a project in 30 lessons (of 1h30, 2 hours during the week or 3 hours on Saturday in presence or via Zoom) developed in collaboration with the the School Office of the Embassy and with the University for Foreigners of Siena.

For Italian students planning to stay abroad for a long time, the course represents an excellent and unique opportunity to learn the correct use of the language and to have an organic approach to Italian reading and culture.

The Italian courses prepare for the future inclusion of K-12 students in Italian schools as they follow the indications of the ministerial programs, but do not automatically allow them to receive the equivalence which is the responsibility of the Regional School Offices in Italy and the Ministry of Education .

The certificates issued at the end of the supplementary course are documents of an informative nature which, together with the qualification issued by the local school with the related declaration of value, aim to provide further useful elements to allow school managers or those responsible to be able to include the student in the most suitable class.

AP Italian

It is important that all native Italian speaking students take the AP (Advanced Placement) exam in Italian.

Not only does it demonstrate your in-depth knowledge of the language and culture, but it also gives you the opportunity to obtain university credits.

Casa Italiana offers a FREE preparation COURSE to all students who have good linguistic competence in Italian and who intend to sit for the exam as private students.
